Self Storage Q2 Multi-family Residential

Often times I'm asked if self storage is as sound of an investment as multi-family or residential properties because it's not, you know, "A necessity of life". My name is Fernando Angelucci. I'm "The Storage Stud".


My response to that question usually is, you know, storage is one of those things that serves people in transition. So, not everyone's going to need storage all the time, but when they do find themselves in those parts of their life where they are going through a transition, you know, get changing jobs or moving to a new market, you know, downsizing their home, or upgrading their home depending on their financial condition. They're always going to go in and seek out storage. It's one of those things that has been around for quite some time. The biggest booms have been in the 1980's late, mid to late 1980's and has been continuing to grow ever since. I think it's a very sound investment because it is less affected by market cycles and economic downturns. Self storage has done very well in recessions over the last three, four recessions that we have data on.
